What makes a screen enclosure stronger now than before previous hurricanes?

The new codes have raised the loads and values of the design criteria of screen enclosures. Our enclosures are code compliant, based on the 2004 building code and the 2006 amendments. We have improved our designs by offering a ridged frame at the column and beam connection, thicker angles in our column to deck connections, larger stud anchors and nut and bolt connections. Larger and heavier gauge metal in the lateral bracing in our roofs and in our corner bracing.

What aluminum alloys provide the most strength for screen enclosures?

The standard industry alloy is 6063 T-6. We now use 6061-T6 which are more structural alloys which have higher yields and are stronger.

How does screen cloth affect screen enclosure structure and strength?

Most Florida hurricanes are very wet and combined with the sustained winds cause a capillary action on the screen (Water sheeting on the screen) preventing the wind from blowing through. Screenco recommends that you remove some screen panels in order to eliminate the vacuum created be this capillary action.
